365 Project Day 39

I've seen these water drop photos all over the internet so I had to try it myself.  Not as easy as it looks but fun and worth the effort, I think.

I call this "Cross Polarized Scotch Tape Dispenser".  :)  My laptop screen is behind this tape dispenser and I shot this with a Polarizing filter.  The color variance shows the stresses in the plastic from being extruded.

Nick reading in the rain.  OK, so it wasn't really raining, I was experimenting.  Thanks to Nick for being the subject, thanks to Zack for being the rain.

I'm not obsessed with sparks, its just that I had an axe to grind.  :)

Homemade lightning attempt two, using alternating current instead of static electricity and a much lower voltage.

More playing in the dark.  This time with a laser and sugar bowl.

So, don't ever try this, but I got tired of chasing lightning so I created my own.

365 Project Day 30

Spent a good part of the morning at the NM Outdoor Expo.  Valeta is getting ready to blast a clay pigeon.

Zack and I went out and tried the lightning hunt again.  This time with more success thanks to Zack's uncanny ability to predict where and when the lightning would strike.

365 Project Day 28

I went chasing lightning tonight but didn't have much luck.  This is the best I could get.

365 Project Day 27

Step 1:  Using a fishing pole cast your line over the highest tree limb in your backyard.
Step 2:  Attach fishing line to stronger twine and real it in.
Step 3:  Set camera for interval shooting and attach to twine.
Step 4:  Pull camera up into the tree while it takes a picture every 10 seconds.
Step 5:  Catch camera as it plummets to the ground when the tree limb breaks. (True Story!)
Step 6:  Try again another day!

OK, so the kids are helping me come up with ideas for my pictures now.  This was Tara's idea.

This is the image I was going for on day 14 but failed. Reflections of a magnetic butterfly in beads of water.

365 Project Day 19

Tonight I decided to practice portraits.  I bounced the flash off our house which has light brown stucco.  I like the way it warmed up the shot a little.

It was a dark and stormy night... in the kids bedroom.

Before I knew it the day was over and I hadn't even thought of the pic I had to take, so I grabbed a long lens, my tripod and aimed my camera up the street.

Sunset on the west side.  Tonight we had a little rainbow sprout on the east side over the mountain, and this sunset on the west side.

I started out trying to get some clever reflections in the water drops but didn't quite make it.  I call this "Water on Glass".  :)

365 Project Day 13

I spent way more time than I care to admit trying to repair a Nikon SB600 Speedlight flash today.  I found it had a shattered tube but even after I replaced that it still did not work.  Pretty discouraging.  Oh well, at least I got today's pic out of it.

Pretty self explanatory.  Flipped horizontally in Photoshop.

Tara decided to go roller blading at the park so I grabbed my camera for this pic.  She is pretending to be in the roller derby.  :)
